Senior Electrical Engineer – Power Systems

Based in the modern centrally located Sydney facility you will report directly to the Electrical Engineering Manager and play a key leadership role within an experienced Electrical Engineering team executing the electrical component(s) of projects ranging in size from $50m to $500m. Your key responsibilities will include
- Accuracy of engineering design as well as ensuring accuracy of sub-ordinate works in fully satisfying project requirements in terms of performance and quality.
- Meeting challenging project objectives with respect to meeting the project schedule, project cost and engineering Man-hours.
- Meeting customer specifications and execution of electrical engineering activities for projects like electrical studies, design, specifications, documentation for electrical equipment and installation requiring Low, Medium, and high voltage systems.
- Electrical design, electrical system studies, equipment selection, protection relay selection and coordination for power plant projects.
- Electrical equipment specifications and technical reviews/evaluations for procurement.
- Initiative, leadership, communication and liaison with other disciplines for electrical interfaces and other related issues. Provide input for mechanical packages requiring electrical interface. Provide site support during site installation, testing and commissioning. Quality assurance
Detailed design Engineering scope:
Electrical system studies like short circuit, load flow, voltage drop, lighting, lightning protection, protective relays selection and co-ordination, motor starting etc. Prepare load list, power and control cable schedules, single line diagram showing protection relays and interlocks, electrical control philosophy, lighting design and layout, cable sizing and routing, earthing design and layout and any other documentation required for electrical design and/or submission to the Client for power plants and boilers.
Interface electrical design requirements for other packaged equipments such as turbine generators, air compressors, soot blowers, diesel generators etc. Hazardous area equipment selection, uninterrupted power supply design and selection, fire control systems, CCTV, essential services diesel generators sizing and selection, standards instrumentation and standards
Electrical equipment/switch room layout design for overall plant layout. Understanding of National Electricity Rules (NER) and local grid requirements for connection of power plant Generators to the grid
Communicate with various electrical equipment suppliers and installation contractors if required for technical clarifications/information to meet the electrical specifications.
Monitor and control cost estimates for man-hours and equipment. Participate in Factory acceptance tests for electrical equipment as & when required.
You have a Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering with specialisation in electrical power system design together with significant experience in design, specification, review and procurement of various electrical equipment for industrial plants. Extensive knowledge of designing electrical systems comprising of generators, MV,LV switchgear, transformers, VSDs, protection, synchronisation and grid compliance experience in use of ETAP software for electrical fault studies will be highly regarded. Experience in the boiler, co-generation and utility power plants is preferred.
