This large, international engineering firm with a regional head office in Sydney is urgently seeking an impressive application support engineer. Your role will be  to deliver high level technical support for leading edge controls and automation systems to major Australian and Asia Pac customers. The role requires excellent customer service and communication skills, in addition to solid technical skills in areas like Windows Server products, LAN/WAN support, database tuning and configuration (SQL Server), and ideally PLC or SCADA technologies.

The main focus of the role is supporting and troubleshooting sophisticated real time software applications, using your technical skills to resolve issues and assist users of business critical controls and automation systems. You will work with a wide range of inhouse and external contacts, including software, mech/elec, control systems, and wireless teams to deliver great solutions and service to some of the world’s largest companies.

The main requirements for this role are:

  • strong knowledge of Windows Server (2000, 2003, 2008)
  • strong computer networking skills
  • strong database skills (preferably with SQL Server, not to DBA level)
  • excellent customer service and communication skills
  • relevant tertiary qualifications
  • PLC OR supply chain / logistics experience

Additional skills/experience that would be useful, but not essential, include:

  • SCADA experience
  • familiarity with .NET software development (C#, Winforms, SOA)
  • field support background

The role includes office based (70%) and on-site (30%) support, with occasional interstate or international travel opportunities. You will receive annual bonuses, along with excellent remuneration, training, and career opportunities.

Working in a small project teams, you will be enjoy a great combination of challenging, interesting work and short to medium term projects in a well structured, engineering environment. Ideally, you will have a real passion for digital signal processing and software engineering with strong mathematical skills. You will also need extensive experience with either Linux or Windows platforms, DSP algorithm design and optimization in a product development context, and implementing complex algorithms in C++. Additional skills in areas like the C++ STL, cross platform application frameworks such as Qt, Visual Studio, systems engineering, embedded C, driver development, hardware interfacing, or acoustics would be advantageous.

As a degree qualified mechanical or mechatronics engineer, you will have a minimum of five years experience within a manufacturing environment in Australia. You will have excellent problem solving skills and a passion for the advancement of manufacturing technologies.
